The church has historically been at the centre of the community and this continues to be the case even in an increasingly secular age. There are an incredible range of activities that take place on the site throughout the week. Young people meet in the church’s own groups, as well as in the full breadth of uniformed organisations that make up Scouting and Guiding, dancing classes and other groups. The church-affiliated Playgroup also brings many children and their parents onto the church premises every weekday. Sadly it is rarely possible for parents to do more than drop their children off and drive away. The new scheme creates a wonderful new meeting space in the atrium, where anyone can come to enjoy a coffee, meet and make friends. Our aim is to create the sort of experience people presently only get from coffee shops in the high street, with good quality coffee, free internet access and comfortable surroundings. We hope to see this space become a hub of life for the church and local community.
Parents and Toddler groups and Luncheon Clubs provide a great source of community for many people already – we wish to improve this experience for them as well as for others.
On Sunday, the atrium will act as an expanded social area for the church family as well as the ideal welcome area for newcomers. The toilets are centrally located and greatly increased in number. The kitchen facilities are significantly improved, and supplemented by several tea and coffee-making points in other parts of the buildings.
